Sodium metasilicate vs sodium hydroxide - Pro Power Wash

Mar 29, 2014·Sodium hydroxide is 'stronger'. They serve the same purpose as an ingredient and can make a roughly equal soap. But the metasilicate, also known as liquid glass, did make 'glass' pieces when I was forced to use it in a strong mix when out of SH. It seems like the MS is not as 'dangerous'. Metasilicate is no sodium hydroxide though in my opinion.

What is Sodium Metasilicate? | Honest

Sodium metasilicate is created by fusing sodium carbonate with silica sand at about 1400 degrees celsius (1). Three quick facts for your scientific enjoyment: If you heat baking soda (a.k.a. sodium bicarbonate) in a 400°F oven for about an hour, it releases carbon dioxide and water and turns into sodium carbonate (2).
